«How to shoot nothing?» - Gueorgui Pinkhassov /Magnum/ workshop

"How to shoot nothing" was for years and years the first workshop held by Gueorgui Pinkhassov in Moscow. Gueorgui Pinkhassov is the prominent russian photographer shooting for Magnum Photos Agency. He joined Magnum at 1986 and became a full member in 1994. This workshop was the unique chance to talk to the photographer, who had become a guru for many russian photographers.

But not only students, friends of Gueorgui Pinkhassov were also happy to visit the workshop, to share the opinions on philosophy of photography, to see the pictures. Gueorgui Pinkhassov was talking more about philosophy than technique, he showed his pictures from different periods, including the most recent.

Gueorgui Pinkhassov told the audience about the importance of curiosity, searching for intriguing shapes and splashes of colour and light in the obvious and ordinary places around us. It's the basics for self-development of creative seing and thinking.

Gueorgui Pinkhassov about shooting nothing:"The power of our Muse lies in her meaninglessness. Even the style can turn one into a slave if one does not run away from it, and then one is doomed to repeat oneself. The only thing that counts is curiosity. For me personally, this is what creativity is about. It will express itself less in the fear of doing the same thing over again than in the desire not to go where one has already been."
